Yard Damage

Groundhogs in yards can cause a considerable amount of damage. Also sometimes called woodchucks or whistle pigs, the pests primarily live underground in their elaborate tunnel systems. Woodchuck digging habits leave large piles of dirt and gaping holes all over yards, and their burrows can affect the structural integrity of fencing, sheds, and home foundations, depending on their placement. The pests also feast on plants found in gardens, flowers, and grasses. They can carry parasites like ticks and fleas.

Prevention & Removal

To reduce the possibility of finding groundhogs in yards, property owners can erect fences around gardens and lawns. These should be buried at least one foot underground and stand four feet tall to be effective, as woodchucks are gifted diggers and climbers. Deterrents like strobe lights and sprinkler systems can also be helpful. However, these methods are not guaranteed to work. At the first sign of a groundhog in the yard, property owners should contact the wildlife removal professionals at Critter Control to take care of the problem and prevent damage.
