Exclusion and Repair
Raccoons are well-adapted to live around people. They can find food, water, and shelter on your property. They cause the biggest nuisance during breeding season. In early spring, female raccoons are looking for safe places to give birth and raise their young. Spaces like your attic provide an ideal raccoon den.
If you see a raccoon on your property or see signs of raccoon activity, it’s time to start thinking about how to remove it. Raccoons can damage your home and carry diseases that can be transmitted to humans. Removing raccoons yourself is not the answer, as it can be challenging and potentially dangerous.
Inspection
During the inspection, we determine the severity of the raccoon infestation. We look for physical evidence like footprints in or around the home, stains from raccoon feces and urine. On the exterior of the house, we look for damage like scratches on boards, broken vents and screens, ripped apart shingles, destroyed soffits, and every possible entry point.

Rodents like rats and mice are everywhere. They can squeeze their bodies through almost anything, no matter how small. The house mouse, roof rat, and Norway rat are some of most common (and destructive) pests in NE Iowa. They search for food, water, and shelter. Your attic, pantries, basements, sheds, garages, and even under your stove are a few places we’ve found rodent infestations.
Here’s how we handle rodent removal:
Inspection
During a rodent inspection, we thoroughly inspect your attic and provide a complete exterior home inspection. The most common signs of rodent activity are gnaw marks, feces, rub marks, nesting material, runs in insulation material, and small entry points.

Squirrels are everywhere in NE Iowa, and we know just what to do when they invade your home or property. Squirrels can cause quite a bit of damage to your property chewing your home, electric and making homes in your gutters. Trying to get rid of them on your own is both difficult and potentially dangerous. Critter Control has been resolving wildlife issues in homes for over 40 years.
Inspection
Wildlife specialists look for signs such as chewing on, in, or around your home, small openings leading to the attic or the crawl space, droppings, and debris like nuts or nesting material. Beams, wires, pipes, and insulation may all show signs of damage from squirrels.

Bats are beneficial to the environment and are protected species. They eat thousands of insects every night, which is why they are an essential factor in our ecosystem. Also, they are excellent pollinators, and their guano is a great fertilizer. There are species of bats that live in colonies and species that are solitary.
There are plenty species of bats in NE Iowa. Numerous of those can live near humans and transmit diseases. Some of these species are colonies, while the others are solitary. Because bats are creatures of habit, it’s important to do what you can to bat-proof your home, barn or other structures. Otherwise, you will have a bat nuisance problem every year.
If you’re not using bat guano for fertilizer, it will become a problem. It will stain floors and walls, and it is so acidic it can erode metals and wood. Trying to get rid of bats yourself puts you at risk for contact with their guano, which can carry mold spores. Also, they may bite you and transmit disease. Let our experts do the dirty work.
Inspection
We perform a full interior and exterior inspection and search for signs such as rub marks, guano, a strong scent of ammonia, and small openings. The most common sign is the accumulation of guano (feces).

Skunks typically invade yards in search for food and a safe place to burrow. Sheds, porches, and foundations make ideal burrowing locations which can lead to structural damage.
If skunks are on your property, approach cautiously. When threatened, they can spray up to 10 feet away.
Inspection
In addition to noting any pungent odors that signal the presence of a skunk, we will inspect the condition of your landscaping, as skunks are known for tearing-up lawns and shredding grass while hunting for grubs and insects. We will also inspect the perimeter of your building’s foundations and under decks, to locate burrows.

Skunk Control
The most effective ways to control a skunk problem is exclusion and habitat modification. Methods like sealing foundation gaps, replacing and screening broken foundation vents and installing hardware cloth (rat walls) around unprotected sheds and decks are the most effective and permanent ways to keep skunks out. We recommend keeping pet food inside and securing any trash bins.
