Bordering Lake St. Claire north of Detroit, Macomb County is a popular place for both people and animals to live. The changing seasons means homeowners can experience different nuisance wildlife. During the spring and summer mammals are looking for safe places to give birth. The harsh winters will drive rodents to shelter that is safe and warm.
Squirrel Control
Michigan supports both ground squirrels and tree-dwelling fox, gray, and red squirrels. While ground squirrels dig in lawns, tree squirrels may enter homes to raise its young. To get indoors, squirrels often gnaw at attic or soffits to enlarge holes.
Raccoon Removal
With easy access to water and food, raccoons in Macomb County thrive. These animals frequent private properties, tipping over trash cans and picking through dumpsters at night to find a meal. Homeowners who awake to find garbage strewn across the lawn or driveway often have a raccoon issue.
Bat Removal
Michigan has a thriving population of bats, and Macomb County is no exception. During the winter, bat colonies roost in sheltered areas such as the upper levels of homes. Not only are bats rabies carriers, they also pollute attics, crawl spaces, and sheds with their infectious waste.
Bats prefer natural roosting spots, attic but an or uncapped chimney will do if other shelter is unavailable. Depending on the time of year in Michigan, colonies in houses may also include young. Since this complicates exclusion, seek professional bat control before sealing entry points.
Nuisance Wildlife during Michigan’s Summers
Coyotes are a concern throughout Macomb County during warm weather. Although sightings are rare, the pests cause issues when they hunt and forage for food. Coyotes often tip over trash cans, eat pet food left outside, and even prey on unattended pets.
Woodchucks also pose problems during spring and summer. These pests raid gardens and dig in lawns. Woodchuck burrows ruin landscaping and cause serious damage when the animals tunnel under home foundations. In addition, these large rodents can spread tick-borne diseases to Macomb County residents.
